Ringgold is considing a site adjacent to the high school for a new middle school
NEW EAGLE - The Ringgold School Board is considering a site for the new middle school that is adjacent to the high school property.
The board voted Wednesday night to direct HHSDR Architect to make studies, surveys, appraisals and tests of the property in Carroll Township. The direction did not include a cost of how much the architects could spend on the work. The board is considering closing Carroll Middle School and sending those students to Finley Middle School until the new school is complete for all students.
This is about the eighth site that the board has considered, said school board President Denise Kuhn.
She said the board was hoping to find a central location for the new school, but hadn’t been able to until this one became available. She said there’s no specific agreement to talk about yet.
“This was a blessing,” she said. “We were losing hope we could centrally locate it.”
At a recent public hearing about closing Carroll Middle, several parents asked the board to find a central location so students wouldn’t have to be bused so far to the new school.
Kuhn said she hopes the board may have to call a special meeting by the end of this month to pick a site for the school

Woo Hoo! I spoke to a long-time Ringgold employee recently who told me that when the "new" high school was designed years ago, it was designed in such a way that a middle school could be added on. The employee also told me one reason for closing Carroll is that it is in "distress" under NCLB and parents therefore have the option to send their student to a different school. They are picking Finley, so enrollment and class sizes at Carroll have been decreasing and at Finley have been increasing. If so, it makes fiscal sense to close Carroll even while awaiting building a combined middle school.
Im going to be really ticked if this merger happens. I go to Finley right now and it is already crowded enough. Now I understand that Carroll is falling apart at the seems, But as I said before there isn't enough room at Finley for 300 more students. Another problem with it is that a lot of teachers may get layed off or even loose their jobs because there arent enough extra classrooms at Finley. Now another big problem is transportation. #1 there is not enough room in Finley's parking lot for 30+ busses. #2 it would take 30 - 40 minutes to get students from Carroll township to Finley Middle School and that is just the ride not to mention extra time it would take to make stops.
